In the Year 2004 Escuela Superior Internacional is created with the vision of providing superior education for Guatemalan professionals who were running strategic positions in leading companies, with the weakness of not having an academic degree.
The directors of Escuela Superior Internacional, saw an opportunity to improve superior education in Central America, which is in a totally obsolete situation and with no relation to the world’s reality and the needs of the countries in the region; this you can see in the conclusions of the research of Dr. Vera Conchi-Valderrama which is knowledgeable on this topic as which is summarized below:
- “If we analyze the problem that presents education in Guatemala we should be criticizing the structure and content of programs that are in force, as it is in this aspect showing backwardness and stagnation that this level has been developing. We continue to teach skills that have fallen completely obsolete. Also there are taught subjects that experience of the years have shown that they have no valid grounds to continue into effect. Finally, educational programs are purely theoretical. There is an urgent need, therefore, not only review, but basically change these programs, update them and adapt them to to the reality of our needs”
- “The number of graduates is extremely low compared to the amount that is enrolled. In San Carlos University is approximately 4%; of which 62% are men and 38% are women. Only a 14% of the graduates are from local campuses.
Conchi Vera-Valderrama, originally from Spain, received her BA in the third world, Great Britain, in where she has lived for the last years. Conchi is a volunteer with the Central American Women’s Network.
